The first Hammer Camp of the season is underway at The Cycling House!  This is the forth year that we’ve hosted Hammer Camps and they keep getting better every year.  In addition to our riding, swimming, running and hangout at The Cycling House, there is an educational element that you can’t really get anywhere else.  With Brian Frank, owner of Hammer Nutrition and Steve Born, their fueling guru around at all times, they are there to help campers get the most out of their nutrition on and off the bike.

This is also the first time this season that we’ve had a completely full house which is so fun.  Sam and Andy Schultz are cooking daily for nearly 20 people and the food has been unbelievable (Pictures coming soon).

It’s been an awesome week at The Cycling House!  With the weather man telling us that rain was inevitable we were preparing for the worst. We aren’t use to rainy weather down here in Tucson, AZ so we had to re-think our rides a little bit and actually found ourselves stressing about the thought of putting on shoe covers, jackets, and hats to go riding.  The weather was wild and it turned out to be one of the best weeks of riding that we’ve had so far this year.

The Cycling House Pizza Night

Fresh out of the oven.

Pizza night at the Cycling house is always a bit of an adventure. From the dough being rolled out with a wine bottle to the crazy topping variations there is never a dull moment on this night.

After a big day on Mt. Lemmon, I don’t know if there is there is a more satifying food then a medley of pizza’s ranging from vegetarian to southwest chicken to Sam and Owen’s proprietary blend.

Saguaro E. National Park – A Staple Ride for TCH

On Friday, The Cycling House group headed out to Saguaro East National Park for some pristine riding in the desert.  Located just East of Tucson, this loop is about 8 miles, all one-way traffic with little to no cars, perfect pavement, punchy hills and fun corners.  It’s similar to a roller coaster and probably the closest thing to replicating single track mountain biking on a road bike…So Fun!

We rolled out around 10am, just as the temps were nearing 60 degrees.  Rolled a nice pace toward Old Spanish Trail and after about a 1.5 hour ride we were at the park entrance. We always give folks the option of doing one, two or if your feeling really ambitious, 3 loops in the park.  Friday we rode two loops, rolled back home and called it a day.  The ride is about 65 miles with nice hills and great roads.

After the ride we had a massive lunch and then hit the lap pool so the triathletes at The House wouldn’t feel like they were slacking off on their training.

Happy New Year!  It’s only been a week since The Cycling House has opened it’s doors and we are already in full swing.  The crew at The Cycling House has been putting in some serious miles in sunny Tucson, AZ and our first camp (53×11 Coffee Camp) is under way and we’ve found our flow.  TCH Campers and staffers alike are getting in those ever so important base miles to kick off their season of training the right way.

Sam and Andy Schultz have started their training for the upcoming pro mountain bike season.  The food they have been putting together has been nothing short of amazing!

Brendan Halpin and Jen Luebke are preparing for a great result at Ironman St. George in the beginning of May. They’ve been leading our 53×11 coffee campers on great rides and adding swim workouts and solid trail runs on either end to top off their training days.

New to The Cycling House staff this year is bike mechanic extraordinaire, Bryce Daviess.  The University of Montana cycling team leader has come down for the month of January to train and wrench on bikes.  We are stoked to have another solid Montana rider to add to our star studded staff.

Temperatures hit 73 degrees today and I must say that we couldn’t have had a better day of training in Tucson.  Hope all is well and we’ll keep the updates coming!

Up and Running

Happy New Year from us here at The Cycling House.  We are proud to announce that The Cycling House is up and running and ready for a great few months in Tucson, AZ!  Owen, Brendan, Jen, Sam and Andy made the trek from Montana to Arizona just after Christmas to start another big season at The Cycling House Tucson.  January still has some openings if you feel the need to escape the north and come ride in the sunshine.  The temperatures have been in the low 70′s for about a week straight and the sunsets have been spectacular.
