Colorado – Mountain Bike Camp

September 17th-23rd, 2012

Why Crested Butte?

TCH staffers have ridden mountain bikes all over the country and they all agree that there is no place they would rather be riding in the fall than the high country in Colorado and Crested Butte happens to be the crown jewel of high country ridding. Come join The Cycling House and live the mountain bike lifestyle in Crested Butte, CO for a week in September. Ride ribbons of singletrack through golden Aspens. Ride in high altitude meadows at 12,000 feet. Eat great food and drink local beers. Dip a fishing line in icy-cold mountain streams. Learn new skills from mountain bike pros and maybe even run into the Leadville 100 winner, Dave Wiens.

Crested Butte double track

Rain in CB means tacky trails

No one can really claim responsibility for creating the mountain bike, and no place is the unequivocal  birthplace. However, many regard Crested Butte as that place and it’s very easy to see why. The trail system here is unreal. Singletrack spiderwebs in all directions- reaching altitudes of over 12,000 feet as it twists through aspen groves, rises over meadows of wildflowers and descends alpine ridge lines.

Downtown CB in the later afternoon.

This camp will provide the best riding in America and give you a generous taste of true Colorado mountain living. Here’s what we have in store:

  • Six Days of singletrack riding (2-6 hours with the option for a HUGE day)
  • Fly-fish, trail run, and summit hikes during the week
  • Pizza and beers at the Legendary Brick Oven Pizzeria
  • Ride the 401, Reno-Flag-Bear, Strand Trail, Doctor’s Park, Deer Trail, and Hartman Rocks
  • Guest Pro Riders
  • Camp directed by TCH staffer and professional mountain biker, Andy Schultz.

Afternoon light in the aspens on Deer Trail is a treat, but in September when they are golden it's magical.

Deer Trail, the 401, Reno-Flag-Bear, wraps along alpine meadows and aspens groves to the north of town before it plummets into the east River Valley- just one of hundreds of amazing descents in the area.

Hartman Rocks is in Gunnison, just 30 minutes south of Crested Butte. The riding is a mix of hardpack and slickrock, with fun technical challenges and long sweeping and flowy singletrack.

Hartman Rocks

Hartman Rocks- we'll spend one day riding here for a change of pace.
