Sam Schultz
Occupation: Professional Mountain Biker
Hometown: Missoula, MT
House Chores: Assistant to the Head Chef, Story Teller, Airport Shuttle Driver

Sam started out riding like an average kid, using his bike as a tool to explore his surroundings and gain freedom. He always enjoyed it, but had no idea what mountain biking was really about until his uncle introduced him to the joys of riding a proper mountain bike on real trails. It was then that he realized that growing up in Missoula, MT was a mountain biker’s dream with countless miles of pristine trails accessible right from the door. Once he was hooked on riding it was not long before he started dabbling in the racing scene. Sam did his first mountain bike race when he was 13 and was hooked from then on. His brother Andy got into racing at the same time and their parents were extremely supportive, driving Sam and Andy all over the place for races. After a couple years of doing local races in Montana he slowly started keying in on the National Series races and managed to make the World Championships team as a junior. He landed a spot on USA Cycling’s U23 National Team for the next 3 seasons. It was a dream-come-true scenario and a perfect stepping stone into the professional ranks. He signed with the Subaru-Gary Fisher team in 2007 and has been riding for them ever since.
Now his home base is Missoula, MT for the bulk of the year and he migrates down to Tucson, AZ to work at The Cycling House during the winter. For the last few years he has been competing in the U.S. National mountain bike series as well as the World Cup series which adds up to a lot of flight miles and more days on the road than at home. Sam has gained many amazing experiences during his travels around the world and has more than once been quoted saying, “I still can’t believe that I ride my bike for a job.”
