Sam and Andy Schultz find the podium again
Andy Schultz Podium Finish
While neither one of the Schultz brothers won the race in Utah, it seemed as if all eyes were on the epic battle between the two in the prestigious national race at the high altitude ski area of Deer Valley Utah. Sam was just coming off a four week stint in Europe, being home for 3 days before making the trek from Montana, while Andy had just finished up a few hard weeks of training, racing, and working for the City of Durango in Colorado. In the cross country race, Sam and Andy were in a heated battle for 5th position, both wanting that last podium spot. Towards the end of the race, Andy put in a huge effort on the last big climb and ended up getting a slight gap on Sam and actually advanced into 4th place! Sam stayed strong and solidified his 6th place. Given the caliber of riders competing in this race, it’s truly an amazing finish for both of our Cycling House staffers. The next day was the short track and Sam placed an impressive 6th place again while Andy finished up just out of the top 10.
Sam Schultz
Sam was racing the World Cup races in Europe and also represented the United States in the Elite World Championships a little over a week ago. He has some hilarious stories from this last trip in Europe but with all of the traveling and racing he wasn’t able to bless us with his creative and eloquent writings this time. Sam and Owen met up for a nice camping session a couple days ago which is just what they needed after an exhaustingly busy June. They were able to document part of their camping trip with a few pictures…
Sam was stoked once he found out he’d actually be eating dinner.
No boat? No big deal thanks to Sam Schultz giving Owen a power push out to the middle of a glacier fed mountain lake (it was a cold swim back in).
Owen Gue’s Mini Update
Now that I’m not racing anymore, I have a lot of people asking me what I’m up to other then keeping tabs on TCH. My most recent adventure came in the form of hiking into the Jewel Basin near Glacier National Park in Montana. It was supposed to be a short, couple mile hike with a good buddy that turned into an all out bloody blistered death march to find “the perfect camp site.” We thought it would be a good idea to find the most exposed ridge in the mountain range so we’d have a breathtaking view and a guarantee that we were the first people to have ever camped in that spot…ever. We didn’t account for the fact that the ridge might be too steep on either side to actually completely lay down and stretch out and that being on an exposed high place in a 10,000 foot mountain range might make us susceptible to 40 mph wind, lightning, and rain that greeted us at 4am the next morning. We left the tent at home because the weather man promised clear skies and smooth sailing. I think we slept a tad under 1 hour. I did make sure to bring along my new Garmin Forerunner 405 from The Cycling House. All in all it was a great camping trip that made our skin a little thicker and according to Andy’s article in the June issue, I might have some chest hair coming in rather soon. Just another great experience in Montana.

Archives and Calendar added to Cycling House Site
We now have a TCH Circular archive page on our website. Now you can go back and read any of our previous newsletters.
The “booked” days may still have some open slots so email me your 08/09 inquiries. Book your spot at The Cycling House for this upcoming season in Tucson, AZ for some amazing cycling rides. Let us know if you would like to ride with the newest HED Jet or stinger wheels or if you’d like to try out the new Garmin forerunner 310xt, or the edge 705.
June Camper Update
Milt Gillespie of Boise, ID has been putting down the hammer in Idaho ever since he left The Cycling House this winter. Milt arrived at TCH sick with a nasty cold, tired from staying up all night due to flight delays, and in dire need of some quality bike time. Seven days later Milt was bright eyed and bushy tailed, ready to go take on the world. Milt took part in the HED Wheel demo program provided by The Cycling House. He also used the new Garmin edge 705 and the forerunner 310xt. Even though he had minimal training leading up to his trip, Milt was incredibly strong and I knew he had a great season to look forward to. Milt won his age group in his first TT in March and would have nearly won the pro race too, had he been in their category! Milt’s been racing nearly every weekend and is continuing to show off his fitness that he started building up this winter down in Tucson.
Here’s Lenny Katz in New York running the lead out train (pain train) for his teammates. Lenny came down to The Cycling House for some serious training in Tucson, AZ for about a week in March to escape the cold New York North East climate. Lenny put in some huge base miles when he was training with us and now has been racing in the Pro-1-2-3 category in NY and has been building a reputation for his “work horse” like abilities and selfless acts for his teammates. Keep it up Lenny!
Positive Synergy for The Cycling House

Owen Gue Hits the Road
The tail end of my van was nearly sparking the pavement as I drove away from The Cycling House to make my way back up to Montana. With nearly all of my possession’s packed in the Grand Caravan, from the front passenger seat to the rear trunk, it was bursting at the seams.
Sam and Andy Schultz Podium
The highlight of this edition is definitely Sam’s account of his last few weeks of being on the road. His article is the most entertaining thing I’ve read in a long time, so I know you’ll love it.
