Wrapping up our fall California camp

Once again, our California camp was a huge success. But honestly, it’s hard not to have a good time here. The network of beautiful farm and canyon roads is so plentiful it looks like someone dropped a strainer of spaghetti noodles onto the map and put a road everywhere a noodle fell.

On top of the epic riding, there’s great surfing nearby, which Brendan thinks is better than swimming for triathlon training. It’s definitely quite a bit more fun than swimming laps, we think. We even got out for a mountain bike ride on our “recovery day.”

We picked a few apples from the orchards while on our rides, drank a bit of local wine, and ate great food like seared duck breast with local fig compote, chive risotto, and grilled asparagus.

Photographer Tom Robertson  was on assignment during camp and he captured tons of amazing images- including this candid shot of Brendan about to lose the plank competition during our trademark “Core on Shore” event. Andy claims he was trying to help by keeping the sun of his back. Kim Helgans of Cal fame took home the gold.

Stay tuned as we’ll be posting more great pictures from Tom.

Linsey Corbin Tri Camp is Underway!

Pro Triathletes Linsey Corbin and Brendan Halpin are hosting an epic triathlon camp at The Cycling House in Tucson, AZ. There has been an added element of character building at this camp due to record lows here in Southern Arizona.  That being said, we have an amazing group of campers and their upbeat attitudes are incredible!

Linsey Corbin is fresh off her latest  70.3 win in Pucon, Chile. She’s a fellow Montanan and close friends with the crew at The Cycling House.  Brendan just PR’d with a time of 2:38 at the Rock n Roll Marathon in Phoenix, AZ!

Both Brendan and Linsey started racing triathlons together while going to school at the University of Montana. Ever since then their friendship has grown as well as their success in the sport.

Ty Brookhart has been preparing some AMAZING food this week!

Our first couple of rides were cold but Linsey and Brendan credited these workouts to aid in being better prepared to deal with tough, miserable races later on the road

August Staff Update

Wearing It With Pride By Andy Schultz

Ahhh, the dog days of summer.  A time of sun, heat, and lightning.  Of barbeques, family reunions, and weddings.  Of rivers, beaches, and lakes.  Of  tanning, swimming, and embarrassment.

June Camper Update

Milt Gillespie of Boise, ID has been putting down the hammer in Idaho ever since he left The Cycling House this winter.  Milt arrived at TCH sick with a nasty cold, tired from staying up all night due to flight delays, and in dire need of some quality bike time.  Seven days later Milt was bright eyed and bushy tailed, ready to go take on the world.  Milt took part in the HED Wheel demo program provided by The Cycling House.  He also used the new Garmin edge 705 and the forerunner 310xt. Even though he had minimal training leading up to his trip, Milt was incredibly strong and I knew he had a great season to look forward to.  Milt won his age group in his first TT in March and would have nearly won the pro race too, had he been in their category!  Milt’s been racing nearly every weekend and is continuing to show off his fitness that he started building up this winter down in Tucson.

Here’s Lenny Katz in New York running the lead out train (pain train) for his teammates.  Lenny came down to The Cycling House for some serious training in Tucson, AZ for about a week in March to escape the cold New York North East climate.  Lenny put in some huge base miles when he was training with us and now has been racing in the Pro-1-2-3 category in NY and has been building a reputation for his “work horse” like abilities and selfless acts for his teammates.  Keep it up Lenny!
